The Rules Page
1) The fanfiction story must be about Rurouni Kenshin or a Rurouni Kenshin Crossover. (Just so we’re all clear.)
2) All stories must have been updated between January 1st, 2006 and December 31, 2006. (This means a new chapter, not a revision or a repost or anything like that.)
3) The fanfiction story must be original. (As in not a copy of someone else's fanfiction story or a book or movie you've read or seen recently.)
4) Stories are not eligible for categories other than "Fanfic of the Year" if they have previously won any of the other categories. Previous nominees are still eligible for ALL categories this year, as long as they have not won in any previous years. (See past winners list) Runners up and honorable mentions ARE eligible, as long as they have been updated during 2006. Stories that won a category other than "Fanfic of the Year" as an incomplete story that was completed in 2006 are eligible ONLY for "Fanfic of the Year."
5) Stories are only eligible for 'fanfic of the year' upon completion; therefore they must be completed after January 1st 2006, and before December 31, 2006. In-progress fanfic nominations, and stories that were completed AFTER December 31, 2006, will be rejected.
6) Authors are eligible for 'author of the year' if they have shown progress in a fanfiction between January 1st, 2006 and December 31st, 2006.
7) All fanfic nominations must be seconded and accepted by the author in order to make it to the final round. We will contact the author upon being nominated, in which they have until September 30th, 2007 to accept the nomination.
8) Any given individual may make no more than two nominations in a given category.
9) Any given individual may second no more than two nominations in a given category.
10) Authors may not nominate or second their own fanfiction.
11) All nominations and votes will be tracked by the submitter's email address and IP. Use of multiple aliases is strictly prohibited. ALL those caught trying to cheat the system will have ALL nominations and votes NULLIFIED. If you make a mistake, simply email Bunny and have the correction noted. We know the difference between those who accidently push the button twice and those trying to cheat, so no worries, but CHEATERS WILL BE NULLED! (And just because we don't email you about it doesn't mean we didn't catch it, so if you thought you got away with it, think again.)
12) Authors are free to accept up to two nominations in a specific category, and may reject any and all nominations as they see fit.
13) Absolutely NO award rigging! These awards are not a popularity contest; they are a reader's choice awards. Placing buttons or banners on your website or making a comment in author's notes of your story that you have been nominated etc. is acceptable, even advisable however, soliciting nominations or votes through forums, mailing lists, etc. specifically for you as an author or for your story is STRICTLY PROHIBITED. If your story is really good - readers will nominate and vote for you, you do not need to “ask” them to do so. Simply making people aware that the RKRC is taking nominations and votes usually gets those reading your stories to go there with the intention of nominating you, so really - DON'T TRY TO RIG THE AWARDS. Soliciting nominations and votes is cheating the whole idea of "reader's choice" awards. Those caught doing this will be disqualified.
14) No Hentai or Gay (Yaoi/Yuri - Shonen-ai/Shojo-ai) stories will be accepted. We know they were in the past, but we are not going to allow them presently. For a list of the available categories, please click here.
15) Four nominations are required for any given category before voting will be held. If fewer than four nominations are received, the category will be dropped for this year's RKRC. You can track the number of accepted nominations at the current entries page.
16) Stories that receive runner up or honorable mentions will NOT be disqualified from future RKRC unless they win in other categories, or if they don't fit future date requirements.
17) The nomination phase ends at midnight PST (Pacific Standard Time) on September 15th, 2007. Seconds will be accepted until September 30th, 2007.
18) Nomination and voting will take place via an automated form. Your nominations and votes will NOT be shared with anyone outside of the Kenshin-gumi staff.
19) The winners are scheduled to be announced and featured sometime after December 15th 2007.
Thank you for reading through the rules.
